NEW DELHI: Folk singer Teejan Bai, Djibouti president, Ismail Omar Guelleh, L & T group president Anil Manibhai Naik, and Marathi theater painter Balwant Moreshwar Purandare were honored by the Padma Vibhushan, second highest civilian honor of the year, this year Kariya Munda, chief of the Jharkhand tribe, the chief executive of BHP Bihar Hukumdev Narayan Yadav, the leader of Akali, SS Dhindsa, former minister of The Union and mountaineer Bachendri Pal are among the 14 winners of the Padma Bhushan Award. The South African anti-apartheid minister of Indian origin, Pravin Gordhan, is also on the list of Padma Bhushan.

Among the winners of Padma Shri 2019 are Gautam Gambhir, former cricket player, Captain Sunil Chhetri of the Indian football team, actor Manoj Bajpeyi, dancer-actor Prabhu Deva, the actor and screenwriter Kader Khan, actor and screenwriter Kader Khan, the anti-Sikh activist of 1984, HS Phoolka, percussionist Anand Sivamani, American author Gita Mehta and Sallumarada Thimmakka, aged 106, who has planted thousands of trees in 65 years.

The list of Padma Awards, with a total of 112 entries, includes 4 Padma Vibhushan, 14 Padma Bhushan and 94 Padma Shri. Although 21 of the recipients (nearly 19%) this year are women, the list also includes 11 people in the category of aliens / NRI / PIO / OIC. The list included Nartaki Natraj, who is the first trans-Bharatnatyam representative of international repute. The list includes two media personalities – Kuldip Nayar and Devendra Swarup – both posthumously rewarded by Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Ashok Laxmanrao Kukade (Padma Bhushan), founder of the Vivekananda Hospital, serving the needy of Latur, prone to drought; Illias Ali, pioneer of laparoscopic surgery, Mammen Chandy, pioneer of bone marrow transplant, transplant surgeon in Indraprastha Apollo Sandeep Guleria and cataract surgeon Pratap Singh Haldia, who offers free services to the poor.
