Assam police today filed a lawsuit against popular singer Zubeen Garg for allegedly abusive remarks against Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honor.
The FIR was registered in Lanka, in the Hojai District, celebrating Republic Day and Thursday's announcement that Bharat Ratna had been posthumously awarded to Bhupen Hazarika, one of the main icons of the state culture.

Previously, he had proposed to social media to return the money he had received by way of remuneration for singing the song of the BJP campaign for the electi He also wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and participated in demonstrations against the draft law on citizenship.
Borah said in an article published on Facebook that the FIR had been filed for "defamation, disrespect and insult to the nation, the Bharat Ratna and the defamatory and insulting voice as well as pride Assam fire Bhupen Hazarika accordingly, with some unparliamentary and antisocial words. "
