Deepika Padukone replaces Kiran Rao as new president of MAMI Mumbai Film Festival | Bollywood

The actor Deepika Padukone has been named president of the Jio MAMI festival in Mumbai. She replaced the filmmaker Kiran Rao.

According to an article in Mumbai Mirror, Kiran would have abandoned his role to focus on a film project. Deepika called her appointment a huge responsibility. "It's an absolute honor and a huge responsibility. I believe in MAMI's vision and we are committed to creating a community that film lovers and creators of a film-pbadionate nation like ours deserve, "she said daily. Kiran also congratulated her. "I am delighted to welcome Deepika Padukone, one of the most beloved stars of Indian cinema, as the new president," she said.

The festival director MAMI and film critic Anupama Chopra shared the information on Twitter. "To new beginnings! Thank you Kiran for your faith, your generosity and your hard work. Delighted to learn from our new president, the amazing Deepika Padukone, and collaborate with her, she wrote in her tweet.

The festival's creative director, Smriti Kiran, also welcomes Deepika. "Thank you for paving the way for #Kiran! And welcome to the new president of # MAMI, the amazing @deepikapadukone! Deepika was last seen in Padmaavat, released in January 2018. She is now working with Meghna Gulzar on her upcoming film, Chhapaak. The film is based on the life of Laxmi Aggarwal, a survivor of acid attacks.
