When it comes to Zack Snyder's films, my favorite is by far the long version of Dawn of Dead . Maybe it's my love for zombie movies and horror movies in general, or maybe it's just stellar visuals (Snyder has always had an eye for action sequences), but the film stands out as a horrible and macabre festival where, spoiler alert the dog does not die.
Snyder pursues the realization of epics of superheroes like Watchmen and Batman v. Superman but he returns to his horror roots with a new zombie movie, The Army of the Dead .
Snyder produces the film for Netflix, with rumors that the budget could reach $ 90 million. The film will follow a man who gathers a group of mercenaries to enter a quarantine area, Las Vegas, and commits a heist while surrounded by zombies. It sounds downright ridiculous, which is why I'm so excited about it. Sometimes you need social comments in the zombie genre, and other times, you just need an action movie with zombies where people get banged on.
Snyder himself welcomes the project, declaring to The Hollywood Reporter He had never been "let go" like this before, saying, "This is an opportunity to find a way purely happy to express myself through a genre. It will be the craziest freakshow, the most self-conscious, but not in the way of a wink at the camera, a freakshow of zombies at the wall that no one has ever seen . He also called the film "filmer". "A Great Palace Cleaner."
The director captures many negative reviews for his work in the DCEU, beginning with Man of Steel and ending with his resignation from Justice League attend a family tragedy. However, he is not the only one to blame for DC's critical and commercial struggles. The scripts he had were not necessarily the best, and although his visual language was strong, the granular color palette did not help either. Although I am hardly an authentic "Snyder Cut", I also do not think that he is the sole responsible for films that are struggling to attract a wide audience or receive rave reviews.
The Dawn of the Dead works as a fun and exciting zombie movie. There are bloody ruins, a shopping mall hideaway and a zombie baby. There is an excellent montage of generic world invaded by zombies. It may not have the social impact of the original The Night of the Living Dead but it is a crazy pleasure for the hell of fans of the genre, with solid pieces of board.
Netflix actively removed this project from Warner. Bros, where it's been developing since 2007, which means that the streaming giant must see potential in Snyder's story and vision. He also reunited Snyder with Netflix's filmmaker Scott Stuber, who for the first time gave Snyder his shot on Dawn of the Dead with Universal. If the film itself keeps its promises, we still have to see it, but personally, I'm happy to see Snyder regain his horror roots and give us the wild action we sometimes need.
