Opening Segment – HIT: Raw had a great start with Seth Rollins who wanted to win the Royal Rumble the night before. He gave an excellent promo to start the game and created the idea that he had not yet decided which champion to challenge at WrestleMania. Triple H was also good at the idea that Rollins had to make a decision before the show ended. This gave a hook for the rest of the show. When Dean Ambrose came out, I was afraid he was trying to challenge him for the title at WM. So I am relieved when it is only a match. This also allowed Rollins against Ambrose to grow after the first interruption of advertising.
Rollins vs. Ambrose – HIT: This was a good match. It was rather one-sided, but given the news that Ambrose will leave the WWE in April, it makes more sense. In either case, it made sense for Rollins to get a solid win to keep up the momentum of the Rumble. This puts his quarrel against Ambrose behind him and allows him to move on.
Jax Fighting Men – MISS: I was not a fan of Nia Jax's participation in the Men's Royal Rumble for various reasons. I do not like the idea that women and men fight each other. That's one of the reasons I stopped watching Lucha Underground. I am not comfortable watching it. Having him beaten on the heels like Ambrose did not make much sense for me, since she was also a heel. Once I heard about Ambrose leaving WWE, I thought they only did it to punish him for not signing again, which is meager. I just do not like where they can go with that. Jax's match with Tamina against Alexa Bliss & Mickie James was solid. It was not a miss, but not quite a hit. He was hurt by the dynamic between the heel and the heel.
Angle vs. Corbin – MISS: Kurt Angle should no longer be in a fight. I have no interest in seeing him. When he does, it should be special. This should be a big problem. This should not happen only during a random Raw episode. His quarrel with Baron Corbin goes back several months. She should have been in PPV. But once I saw the game, I was relieved not to be on the pay-per-view television. It was only 4 minutes and lost angle. Commentators have been very enthusiastic to the idea that it is the end of his career that looks like setting up a retirement angle. It reminds me of Ric Flair's retirement angle and the original idea of this story, if I remember correctly. The idea was that after a series of defeats like that of Angle, Flair would say that the next time he would lose, he would retire. That turned into Vince McMahon proclaiming that Flair should retire the next time he would lose. But WWE could easily turn to this other story for Angle now. I guess if this leads to a scenario that leads to a retirement match at WM, then it will be better and more logical. But I still do not want to see Angle so much in the ring.
Balor – Lashley – HIT: Finn Balor made a good promotion by talking about holding his head up despite losing to Brock Lesnar in the title. match the night before. Lio Rush and Bobby Lashley who were coming out to break worked well to give a new opponent to both men. Lashley vs. Balor for the Intercontinental Championship has a lot of potential to be a good quarrel for both men. The blows received at the end put more heat on Lashley. But, it looked a lot like what would happen at the end of the show between Lesnar and Rollins.
Elias, Jarrett, Dogg – MISS: Elias's experience as a babyface was a failure. He was never able to really rotate his character from the popular heel to a babyface. So, I agree with them so that he becomes a heel again so soon. Asking him to light up a retired wrestler like Jeff Jarrett does not make much sense. Of course, he had a good reaction, but where does it go? Yes, the fans chanted "holy shit" by seeing Jarrett and his old Road Dogg roadie together, but for what purpose? Are we going to see an Elias match against Jarrett, or Elias versus Road Dogg? These are really crappy matches. So, I'm not really looking forward to seeing where they go with Elias.
Mojo Rawley – HIT: I am a Hit in the hope that this is really the beginning of a good thing for Mojo Rawley. . He has talent and he played this promo by talking well in the mirror.
Ronda Rousey – MISS: WWE and Ronda Rousey should have been prepared for this reaction by WWE. crowd. For me, it felt like a night out after a Mania crowd and, with Becky Lynch's popularity, they should have anticipated this reaction and prepared for Rousey. Instead, she appeared as a deer in the headlights when she was confronted with hoots and "Becky" songs. She did not know what to do and even acknowledged that the fans had tripped her. This is the same reaction she will have at WM and in some crowds, especially when she interacts directly with Becky. I therefore hope that WWE will work with Rousey to get her to handle the situation better because she failed here. She seemed about to change things when she was talking about Becky. I thought that she was going to gain a little public by making a strong statement like "Speaking of Becky, I hope she chooses me, because I want to face the best and that". she is now the best. " But after she started talking, she hesitated again and was totally lost. She never reached the point where she took up the challenge, but WWE had to send Bayley early to save the segment.
The match that followed between Bayley and Rousey for the women's title was not good. It was solid. I will not give him a Miss, but it was not a Hit either. Rousey was just in this game. Part of that was that she was selling both an injury to the leg and arm, which meant that she was almost to be deliberately negligent in selling her injuries. It made sense for the story, but it did not make for a nice match. They had good places. Bayley looked strong. It was not bad. But, considering the quality of the match between Rousey and Banks the day before, I was expecting a very good match here.
The Man – HIT: There was a winner and a vanquished in the night between Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey. Lynch appeared as the first star of the company. She was terrific in proclaiming she would face Rousey for the Women's Raw title at WM. She showed here why fans have been hugely behind her. The fans did not seem to care that she had contacted Asuka the night before. I will say that after being so moved by fans and having had a disappointing match against Bayley, I really thank Rousey for ending the segment. She stumbled a little early in her answer. But overall, this answer was good. She advanced and finished on a much stronger note. Her final statement was excellent and she redeemed a little after her poor performance earlier. That made me want to watch them fight even more than before.
Strowman vs. McIntyre – MISS: The WWE wants to push Baron Corbin and I understand that it causes a strong reaction to the heel. But, I sincerely believe that it is especially the heat that goes away. He is not good at everything he does. His matches are not good. His work at the microphone is not strong. So, I do not want to see him in several segments of the same show. So, I did not want to see him get involved in this match between Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre. The match was perfect until Corbin was involved and caused a disqualification. I'm getting tired of WWE games where they can not lose a wrestler. There have been too many of these types of purposes to not lose a wrestler, including Strowman's match against Balor last week. Plus, McIntyre should be a big star. I hope that he will get a win over John Cena at WM. For me, he is shot by badociating with Corbin. And finally, if he wants to get this match against Cena at WM and become Raw's best heel as he should, he has to stay strong and win his rivalry against Strowman. But, I do not think WWE does it.
Lesnar – Rollins – MISS: The closing session started well, with Paul Heyman discussing Seth Rollins 'choice as WM opponent and pleading for Rollins' decision. Daniel Bryan. But we never had that choice of Rollins. He probably picked Lesnar, but I would have liked Rollins to actually say it. And Rollins beat him for nothing. They begin the construction by making Rollins look like David in Lesnar's Goliath, just after doing the same scenario with Balor and Lesnar. I would have liked to see Rollins take the best of Lesnar here. It remains a few months in Lesnar to recover the heat and look dominant as he did here. It would have been a good time for Rollins to stand up and declare in reality that he will challenge Lesnar for the universal title at WM.
