Escape Room
Director – Adam Robitel
Actor – Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Ann Woll Deborah, Tyler Labine, Jay Ellis and Nik Dodani
Note – 2 / 5

As original and refreshing as possible, Escape Room borrows heavily from a long list of similar suspense movies, thus limiting its appeal to casual moviegoers and ensuring that, in the minds of fans of the same genre horror, lower copy.

It contains the Kafkaesque configuration of the Vincenzo Natali cube, the claustrophobia of Agatha Christie, produced by M Night Shyamalan, which reinvents, the devil and ambition of a rejected episode of Black Mirror.

Six strangers are selected, seemingly at random, and invited to participate in an Escape Room game, whose winner has a chance to win $ 10,000 and a chance of redemption. They hardly know that the game they will participate in is far from the innocent activity that they had planned for the afternoon. It is rather a terribly detailed and hyper-realistic excuse for a madman to exercise physical and psychological torture. [19659005] The first stage of the game literally traps the characters in an oven and the scenarios become more and more imaginative afterwards. The last time someone escaped from such a painful play, Brie Larson won an Oscar.

Escape – in the world reality – are a relatively new fashion; these are physical constructions of something you could experience in a video game: rooms in which players are locked, then clues to riddles and riddles that would help them escape within a set time. To add another dimension to the horror, the rooms can be thematic – from the literal interpretation of the ninth circle of hell to film noir in the style of the 1940s.

Curiously, to About the same time as the release of this film in the United States, the news of the first reported victims of an escape game came from Poland. Five girls, celebrating a birthday party, were killed in a monumental fire.

In the ideal, escape rooms are meant to be a kind of team cohesive exercise, encouraging participants to work together, for a common purpose. I imagine that companies that love souls pay their money well so that their employees are transported to one of these places, but they can only come out with the satisfaction of having skipped work that day.

The only thing that can do more. What's exciting is that the groups are chosen at random – that's what the film does, to its credit. Forcing opposing personalities close to each other in a situation of intense pressure offers enormous dramatic potential. Just ask the Avengers.

The problem with Escape Room, however, is that he is too proud to adhere to the premise of his B movie and feels the need – especially in his third act – to stir up some emotion in the procedure. It's a bit odd to blame a movie for aiming high, but Escape Room is far from the game of David Fincher. It's a scholarly film, they say charitably, Saw.

While he was focused on creating imaginative death sequences in the manner of the Friday movie 13, Escape Room could have been a fun time – it's certainly far ahead of the director's previous film Adam Robitel film, Insidious: The last key. But waiting for half-attentive audiences to suddenly feel invested in the lives of highly drawn characters, is too much to ask.

19659005] The interaction between them is neither funny nor tense, precisely because we know so little about them. And in the absence of a clear favorite, the next logical step is simply to want their death.

However, not everything is lost. To get rid of it, do not miss Coherence, a great sci-fi film with a similar principle. The film traps eight people at a dinner and sends them into a delusion when a pbading comet creates an alternate reality in the street. And while you're there, why not look at Exam, a small British thriller in which a group of candidates is forced to take a test in a locked room and where three rules are defined: do not ask questions, do not mess up the paper, and do not speak. They learn at their expense what are the consequences of not following a rule.

Both films are excellent examples of the kind of film that wants to become Escape Room.
