[1945910] 19659005] The film would like them to be perceived as independently despicable characters, even if, even in flagrante delicto, they need cunning men to pull the strings. It's quite the opposite of how The Favorite, a remarkably similar film – both in its decor and in its style – chooses to represent its women
The historical freedoms taken by Mary Queen of Scots have already been discussed and (rightly so) criticized. But as I hardly know Scottish history – my education is largely limited to the famous fraudster Braveheart – I can say that being armed with information can only worsen the experience.
Because then you will not complain to ridiculous drama, you will also exclaim in disbelief when the film suggests that the fate of England and Scotland was determined by a selfless act of cunnilingus . Even with my rudimentary knowledge, I can say that this was not the case.
Beginning queen Josie Rourke described Mary Queen of Scots as "a Renaissance version of Heat" – a description as broad as Willimon's feminism. Certainly, after leaving his two central characters separated for nearly two hours, the film ends with a verbal confrontation that drives things considerably. The scene surprises Ronan and Robbie in top form, skilfully fighting each other – far from being as thrilling as the likes of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in Heat, helped by the excellent technical departments of the film.
The resounding (and objectively inaccurate) words – "If you murder me, remember to have murdered your sister … and murder your queen". – The warm lighting of the director of photography John Mathieson accentuates the superb makeup on his face, while the violin of the composer Max Richter adds to the emotional cacophony of the confrontation.
But despite what Rourke says, his film is not the two-handed movie Heat was. Robbie is limited to a supporting role as the great wicked Elizabeth I, who does nothing but walk in her moldy rooms and in a horrible scene, survives smallpox. Her character looks more like a wildcard, unfortunately, reminiscent – both visually and in sync with her performance – of Helena Bonham Carter's crazy queen, inspired by Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

Ronan receives most of the time spent in front of a screen, a less awesome character, and the luxury of power to move freely. She is more subdued and her tendency to behave as irrationally as her cousin is wrapped in a cold coat.
Mary and Elizabeth are both willing to take the trouble to dominate each other, including, but not limited to. to sacrifice their spirits and their bodies to protect their honor.
And it's with that irony that Mary Queen of Scots reveals what she's trying to say. The strength of his characters is illustrated by the pbadion with which they act and the bond they develop in their mutual skepticism towards their male advisors – I do not know if the film realizes how much this is against productive.
