His journey from a Gurgaon boy to an actor was one of many struggles. On the sets of the Dancing reality show, Raj admitted that initially, he wanted to be a dancer. As a child, the actor was a strong supporter of dance and wanted to pursue his career. He was 16 when he traveled from Gurgaon to Mumbai on a train to participate in a reality TV show named Boogie Woogie. However, it seems that nature wanted something different for Rao and it was rejected in the series. Previously, the actor was discouraged by his rejection but he currently considers that the act is his scale of success.

Speaking of his dream of becoming a dancer, he says: "I was at the tenth standard when I arrived in Mumbai. From Gurgaon for the first time, I always wanted to be a dancer and I came here for the Boogie Woogie auditions where I was rejected. I was sixteen when I came here. I was very discouraged by this rejection at the time, but today, I am so happy to have been rejected. This has allowed me to make a better career in which I am today. "
