When The Exorcist arrived in 1973, it was pure novelty to see a pair of eyes turn red blood, a head that was spinning , a rotating green head, a green sheaf the sounds that the appearance did. But 45 years later, Indian filmmakers have not been able to evolve or get rid of the ghost of The Exorcist . Not long ago, many Tamil films recounted stories about the supernatural, a trend that is now continuing with a Santhanam character playing in theaters.

But what seems a bit disappointing is that Malayalam cinema, known for its sensitivity, is also starting to enter the ghostly arena with nothing new to show. The screenwriter-director Jenuse Mohamed & # 39; s 9 (yes, that's the title) with luminous actors Prithviraj and Prakash Raj trying two scientists, to my dismay (because j & # 39; I had hoped that these men would not involve themselves in such a work), turned out to be an exercise of pure stupidity. Yes, a fellow director in Singapore, Shilpa Krishnan, warned me before going to the cinema, even though she admired Prithviraj. He disappointed her more and more by playing odd roles.
The star plays an astro-physicist, Dr. Albert Lewis, who lost his wife when his son, Adam (Alok), was born. At the opening of the film, the boy is seven, he is curious, naughty and even aggressive. He encounters violent tiffs with his clbadmates who see him expelled from school. When Albert worries about what to do with the child, he receives a mission from his mentor, a veteran and renowned scientist, Dr. Inayat Khan (Prakash Raj). He wishes that Albert documents the very rare celestial phenomenon of a huge comet hissing beyond the Earth, and that the best place to observe it would be the Himalayas. Thus, Khan takes Albert and Adam along with two other scientists to a sparsely populated hill station. The perfect setting to bring to life a story of disturbing ghosts. And with the pbadage of the comet causing a breakdown of electricity and modern communications for nine days, while the object will cross the earth, what can still ask the spirits?
If the plot is hollow, the writing is terribly lazy. While the supernatural being, played by Eva (Wamiqa Gabbi), prowls about Adam, the tyrannized, the terrifying, his father is busy working from a watchtower, miles away from the huge bungalow where Khan has hosted both. All that Adam has for company is an old servant, who himself seems haunted and ready to sink in the ground, and with Eva harbading the kid, the film turns into a series of reminders with Mohamed who relies on this boring and archaic technique to frighten his audience. Surprising them from time to time by throwing blood on your gooey face is simply deceiving.
Just like Manoj Night Shyamalan at the beginning The Sixth Sense Mohamad begins to deceive his audience with a climax that I really felt cheated.
If the script contains neither direction nor direction, an extremely mediocre edition makes 9 a matter of spice. I could not understand (sorry for the spoiler here) why Khan, while he was aware of Albert's psychiatric state, would send him to a desolate place with his grandson . Unconsciously, Albert hates his son and holds him responsible for the death of his wife. He is determined to hurt the boy. Dr. Khan said all this in a speech similar to a sermon delivered at the end.
9 is an eminently avoidable work. It is appalling that this kind of cinema is even funded.
