The apparent criticism of Palekar concerned the Ministry of Culture which would have abolished the advisory committees of its centers in Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Sandhya Gokhale said that conservative Jesal Thacker appeared to have been pressured to interrupt Amol Palekar's speech on several occasions.

"It is not important to know which party is in power, this institution has restricted freedom of speech for years," said Mr. Gokhale.

In his speech to the NGMA, Amol Palekar also spoke about the recent incident with author Nayantara Sahgal.

In another video of the same event at the NGMA, a lady criticized her critical remarks about Palekar.
