Actor Tahir Raj Bhasin became the latest addition to Ranveer Singh's team in '83. The film is based on India's first World Cup victory in 1983, with Kapil Dev as skipper. It has now been announced that Tahir would play cricket player Sunil Gavaskar in the film.

The actor was last seen as Shyam in the critically acclaimed filmmaker Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival but did not perform well at the box office. While Ranveer starred in Kapil Dev in 1983, the directors announced the cast of movie stars, one character at a time. Pankaj Tripathi was chosen to play the role of team leader Man Singh in the film. The popular YouTuber Sahil Khattar will play the role of cricketer Syed Kirmani, the southern actor Jiiva will be interpreted as the lead actor Kris Srikkanth, the actor-singer Punjabi Ammy Virk will perform Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Chirag Patil will play his father Sandeep Patil in the film.
Ranveer Singh will play Kapil Dev in 1983.
Jiiva will be interpreted as the first match, Kris Srikkanth.
Sahil Khattar will play the role of cricketer Syed Kirmani.

Directed by Kabir Khan of the Celebrity Tiger Zinda Hai, 1983 is based on the Indian cricket team that had defeated the West Indies at the iconic 1983 World Cup Final at Lord's, England.

The true legends of cricket were linked by the manufacturers to train the actors, especially Ranveer. After Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Kapil Dev will train Ranveer for the film. Confirming the same, the actor had stated, "I am looking forward to spending time with Kapil Sir. I think the time I spend would be an integral part of my transformation process.
