Mumbai: Veteran actor Shabana Azmi said Friday that she and her husband, the lyricist Javed Akhtar, had decided not to attend the centennial celebrations of the birth of Kaifi Azmi in Karachi at the following the terrorist attack Pulwama.
The couple was invited to the Karachi Arts Council in Pakistan for a two-day event.
"@ Javedakhtarjadu and I were invited to a two-day event celebrating Kaifi's centennial and we were looking forward to it … mutually agreed to cancel the event at the n-hour after the Pulwama attack ", said Azmi on Twitter.
During one of the deadliest terrorist attacks of the three decades of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, a Jaish kamikaze crashed into a vehicle laden with explosives in a CRPF bus in Pulwama district, leaving at least 40 dead and several seriously injured. Azmi condemned the attacks and declared them united to bereaved families.
"Will not we end up with these heinous attacks, these indiscriminate murders, this total disregard for human lives, extremely shocking news from Pulwama, I strongly condemn the worst terrorist attack on the CRPF convoy," she wrote.
Akhtar, who had composed the CRPF anthem, launched in 2014, also sent his condolences to Twitter.
"I have a special relationship with the CRPF."
