WWE.com announced the release of three superstars from their contracts on Friday.
TJ Perkins, Tye Dillinger and Hideo Itami all left the company with immediate impact. Two of these names were not really a surprise.
Dillinger asked for his release earlier in the week, which the WWE granted on Friday. The 38-year-old had been on the sidelines after being operated on for a hand injury in October, although it has occurred at home shows in recent weeks. Dillinger is known to be a close friend of Cody Rhodes and smart money on his capture by AEW.
Itami had also requested his release last month and the WWE had accepted it on Friday. Entering the WWE in 2014 with many promises and expectations, Itami got off to a strong start in NXT but felt less relevant within the company over the years. He ended up getting lost in the brewing in the Cruiserweight division and, in truth, his climax of recent times was a unique special appearance to fight Naomichi Marufuji during his show for Noah's 20th birthday.
His last appearance at the WWE would be a defeat for Akira Tozawa on the 205 live on Jan. 29. Rumors have it that he will be back in Noah.
Perkins was more of a surprise, although he has not appeared much at WWE TV in recent months. A rare outing on 205 Live this week led to a defeat against Humberto Carrillo and although Perkins had a new look that seemed to indicate a new modified character … WWE would release him a few days later.
