Giving Akhtar the merit of having carved well-rounded characters, Varma told The New Indian Express, "If you follow Zoya Akhtar's filmography, you'll even remember the smaller characters in his films. Zoya does not consider cinema as a unique hero. "
" Gully Boy opens with my character walking down the street, not with Ranveer. It was on paper. She really wanted these characters and this world to come alive. I think that such an approach should be the norm, instead of just being great, "he added.
