After an 8-year break, the state government of Tamil Nadu announced on February 28 the prestigious Kalaimamani Awards. 201 artists were on the list of winners, including Vijay Sethupathi, music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, Priya Mani and many more. Not only that, with the Kalaimamani Awards, the government has introduced several other awards such as the Bharati Prize in the field of literature, the Bala Saraswathi Award in the field of dance and the MS Subbulakshmi Award in the field of music.
Honoring their music achievements, singers S Janaki, sisters C Saroja, C Lalitha and TV Gopalakrishnan received the MS Subbulakshmi Award for their contributions in the field of music. Twelve artists are said to have received the prestigious Kalaimamani Award for their acting prowess, phenomenal on – screen performance and immense dedication in their respective fields. Actors such as Vijay Sethupathi, Srikanth, Karthi, Sasikumar, Vijay Antony, Prasanna, Santhanam, Soori, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Priya Mani, Directors of Photography Rathnavelu and Ravi Varman were honored.
A statement issued by the government said: "Each winning artist will receive a 3 sovereign gold shield and a certificate." The awards would be presented later by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
