Disney rehired James Gunn to lead "Guardians of the Galaxy 3", a deadline confirmed on Friday with representatives of Marvel and Gunn.

Disney did not immediately return a confirmation request from

Disney fired Gunn last year from the director of the third movie "Guardians" of Marvel Cinematic Universe, after offensive tweets have redone surface after years in which Gunn had joked about child abuse.

The decision was immediately rejected, including the "Guardians of the Galaxy" cast, which issued a joint statement in defense of Gunn in July.

"The character he showed following his dismissal is in keeping with the man he was on every day and his apology just a few years ago when he was addressed these remarks heart, "says the letter.

Dave Bautista, star of "Guardians", who plays Drax, was the most active member of the cast to support Gunn, and even declared that it was "disgusting" to work for Disney after the shot.

Gunn was hired by Warner Bros. in October to write and eventually direct the sequel to "Suicide Squad". We do not know how this could affect this film.

Warner Bros. did not immediately return a request for comment from Business Insider.
