Following the recent terrorist attacks in Christchurch on Friday, the upcoming film Hotel Mumbai was removed from New Zealand cinemas.
Hotel Mumbai, composed of Dev Patel and Armie Hammer, is based on a coordinated terrorist attack. in 2008 by a Pakistani terrorist cell in Mumbai, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people.
The two-hour film, directed by Australian Anthony Maras, describes the attack described by a critic of news.com.au "harrowing" and "haunting" detail.
In a press release, Icon Film Distribution announced the suspension of the film from all New Zealand cinemas following the shooting of the Christchurch Mosque.
They also suspended all advertising around the film.
"After consultation with the local partners of the exhibition, the decision was taken to suspend the film
out of respect for a country in mourning," they said.
Hotel Mumbai opened on Thursday, March 14, nationwide. Mar. 28.
