The Vizag Stadium designated as a reserve site for the 2019 IPL

The BCCI announced the calendar of the IPL 2019 group stages. The parliamentary elections are expected to come into conflict with the IPL in the coming months, it was feared that some teams would not have the chance to play in their respective cities. However, the schedule announced Tuesday confirmed that the eight teams will have the opportunity to play all their home games in their respective cities. It was also reported that Vizag had been kept on hold if any of the matches had to be moved at the last moment.

The ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag was the last host of an IPL match in 2016, during the Super Chennai. The kings faced King XI Punjab in a thriller. While it was hoped that the city could hold IPL matches last year after Chennai was sidelined to host CSK's home games, fans were disappointed after the transfer of games to Pune.

The twelfth edition of the IPL will begin March 23 in Chennai. The local Chennai Super Kings team will team up with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, in what should be a high octane clash. According to ESPNcricinfo, Chidai's MA Chidambaram stadium will also host the tournament finale on May 12th.
