The actor L V Sharada Rao, who played the iconic role of Phaniyamma, died Thursday morning. She was suffering from bad cancer and died at 7:30 am at Shankara Hospital in the city

Sharada won a national award for her first Vamsha Vriksha film directed by BV Karanth, Girish Karnad. She had been the main character of many of GL Iyer's films.
