Led by Havaldar Ishar Singh (Akshay Kumar) of the 36th Sikh Regiment, this is the story of 21 gallant Sikh soldiers who died at their post while defending the Saragarhi fort of the Afghan invaders on September 12, 1897
The story claims that they were attacked by 10,000 members of an Afghan tribe in retaliation for British control of the region.

While writers took every precaution to avoid major historical errors or detail errors of the time , the fall of messages, including the patriotic act, is lazily crafted. For example, we are told what Kesari means, who laid the foundation stone of Harminder Sahib and why these Sikhs were willing to commit suicide.
They launch names of places and dates on the screen as if you were going to see is a faithful reproduction of the events, while they're just trying to get their fiction for authentic. An intelligent viewer will surely send them their line – "Chal joohte" – at different times.
The rhythm of storytelling is also problematic. Feature films must include a range of basic ingredients. One of these elements is "the arc of character", in which the main actors must undergo a form of moral metamorphosis resulting from their experiences. So we have a glimpse of Ishar Singh's personal life, which runs through this glbad ceiling.
The other elements are "emotions and humor". Look at this: In the middle of an intense battle scene, when one of the soldiers removes his turban to help his bloody colleague, the wounded soldier, seeing the gray locks on his colleague's head, says with a light heart to his companion, "Are you tho buddah hai yaar", answered by the soldier without turban, "Buddah hoga tera baap."
Congratulations if the situation was real, but on the screen, such frivolous scenes break the intensity and the momentum of the flow. And, they are far from funny.
There are no performance complaints. Each actor plays his part perfectly. At first, it is difficult to digest Akshay with his flowing black beard, but he bites into the skin of his character to give a sincere presentation. Parineeti Chopra as a woman is superficial. The other actors are all natural and serious.
On a technical level, the director negligently neglected many frames of interest to viewers. Among these are the cadres of the battle, when the brave Sikh soldiers in their anguished moments hold their weapons, ready to fire. By touching, their fingers are on the trigger – these shots appear as juvenile poses.
While the wide shots capture the landscape in all its splendor and carry you on the ground, the middle and close shots, especially when Ishar draws a circle with a sword or when a dagger blocks a shoe on the crawling or the shots that capture the glorious death of every Sikh soldier, these clichés appear with artistic and factitious minutia in nature.
The music blends perfectly into the story. The song that plays in the last act makes you sad for the soldiers.
On the whole, Kesari with his sinuous pace, staging, and forced patriotic messages does not affect you emotionally.
