Marvel Studios has misled viewers with movie trailers for years. You should not be surprised to learn that they do the same thing with Avengers: Endgame [19659003].
There were trailers for films in which elements of the film were removed, and there were times when many images were added and we would never see them in the final film.
Some hardcore fans, like me, watch the trailers for this movie several times, looking at it frame by frame to try to find clues. While some might think we are doing it for nothing, I think it's fun!
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have confirmed that the trailer for Avengers: Endgame misleads us, and they explain that the reason is want to preserve the public experience of being surprised at the theater.
While talking to Empire Online, Joe Russo explained:
"We talked about all scales of marketing. The most important thing for us is to preserve the surprise of the story. When I was a kid and saw The Empire Strikes Back at 11am the day it opened, it really touched me because I did not know anything about the story I wanted to watch. We try to reproduce this experience. "
I can fully understand that. While the trailers make us angry for the film, it still manages to keep us completely in the dark as to what the story is really going to be. I agree to be misled in this way because it will make the experience of watching the movie all the more surprising and fun. In an earlier interview, the filmmakers explained:
"We consider the trailer to be a very different experience than the movie, and I think the audience is so predictive that you have to be very intelligent in the way you think about it. a trailer, because an audience can watch a trailer and tell you roughly what will happen in the movie. We consume too much content. So we have a lot of different shots of the film that we can manipulate via CG to tell a story that we want to tell specifically for the trailer and not the movie. "
