Review of the movie Airaa: Nayanthara fucks goodbye to logic in the latest horror film

[ad_1]

Lately, Nayanthara, nicknamed Lady Superstar, prefers to work with newcomers because she believes that they bring "fresh" stories. For her film Airaa, she teamed up with the director of a single film, KM Sarjun, who is well known in the short film circuit for her intense films like Lakshmi and Maa.

Airaa is a horror film; one of the most exploited genres in the history of Tamil cinema. As a horror film, he follows a certain pattern – act of revenge, proper story, hopping fright and thrilling background score. Airaa has a lot, but she's bogged down in a ridiculous pre-climax that will leave you puzzled.

Airaa begins with the introduction of Yamuna (Nayanthara), journalist to the publication Makkal Mail. She wants to create a channel on YouTube, but her boss refuses her idea. However, some situations require it to create a YouTube channel that downloads ghostly made videos to make money. As expected (duh), the Yamuna chain becomes a huge success.

But Yamuna must pay the price of her meteoric rise. Her grandmother's house in Pollachi, from where she operates her chain, becomes haunted. Meanwhile, in Chennai, Amudhan (Kalaiyarasan) has no idea of the deaths that are happening around him. Yamuna and Amudhan are searching for the cause (separately) and constitute the plot of the story, whether they discover it or not.

The strength of Airaa lies in its second part, which tells the story of Bhavani, who yearns for happiness in life. As Bhavani, sorrow, Nayanthara is excellent and makes us empathic with her. Director Sarjun KM addressed many social issues such as bullying, abuse, rape and many more during the second half of the year. The messages are not on your face; they are subtle but strong. In addition, Sarjun intelligently uses the butterfly effect.

The first half of Airaa aims to arouse fear in the public mind. But, having watched more than 100 horror movies in recent years, the public is no longer immune to them and it takes a lot to scare the jump today. The background plays a major role in any horror movie and Sarjun wrote a relatable story in Airaa.

The main disadvantage of Airaa is that the director has tried to address several problems, but does not dive deeply. The introduction scene of Yamuna, where she puts a badist man on the spot, seems to be there to make her badert as a strong woman.

The events of Bhavani's life are magnificently showcased, but the pre-climax is a huge disappointment spoils the whole sensation of the film. In fact, the big revelation is one of the most ridiculous reasoning that a director can have.

Nayanthara in two roles (Bhavani and Yamuna) looks ethereal and delivers a striking performance. In retrospect, however, one also has the impression that his expressions are repeated. As a dark-skinned Bhavani, she causes a change in body language, which is very necessary for the character.

Kalaiyarasan, Maathevan and Gabriella Sellus all delivered compelling performances, but it is Nayanthara who has been supporting the film since the beginning. . Yogi Babu's one-liners do not work and fall flat.

The backbone of Airaa is the music and score of the composer KS Sundaramurthy. His compositions Kaariga and Megathoodham are brilliant to listen to. The work of cinematographer Sudarshan Srinivasan deserves special mention: he played with colors in Airaa.

Airaa could have been a horror movie with a touching backstory, but it lacked distance.

Director Sarjun KM, Airaa, starring in Nayanthara in two roles. aims to be an exciting horror movie loaded with many hidden messages. But, logic takes a beating and makes it a disappointing movie. Look only for Nayanthara, and only if you really want it.

2 out of 5 stars for Airaa.
