As it was predicted in this column a few days ago, neither Junglee nor Notebook were to take a dazzling departure. Both were weak on buzz and hype, and so it all boiled down to how the content would be shaped. Although this is the deciding factor for collections on Saturday and Sunday, to date, the numbers have remained within the expected range.
Junglee was the biggest film in terms of scale, size and audience, and it featured Vidyut Jammwal in the lead who has some kind of par value given his Commando Series . The film was announced to open in Rs. 2-3 crore range and the start was a little better as Rs. 3.35 crore entered. A start like this is expected when the public's enthusiasm is about right and that it would now act from the word of mouth that would be spreading.
Among the critics as well as "aam junta", the appreciation up here is limited, which means that we can not expect multiple growth in numbers today. The minimum necessary for the film would be to get closer to the RS. 5 crore mark.
By cons, the production of Salman Khan Notebook should open in Rs. 1-2 crore range and that would have been quite low too. The film was even lower, barely Rs. 0.75 crore entered. This is not the kind of departure that would help the cause of this romantic musical that launches Zaheer Iqbal and Pranutan Bahl.
The film would need a miraculous reversal to give the impression of any kind since the figures are not even half of that Loveyatri (Rs. 2 crore) had marked the first day.
