Veteran actors Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh and Helen recently toured Kapil Sharma's show and entertained the audience with stories from the golden era of Bollywood. Kapil reminded Waheeda of his film Reshma Aur Shera during the episode. Recalling that, Waheeda mentioned that she had slapped Amitabh Bachchan, her co-star in the film, for a scene. She explained: "Amitabh principal, bahot kas ke lagaane wahi hoon. Shot hua, phir Amitabh bole, kaafi achcha tha (Amitabh, I'm going to hit you hard.He said it's pretty good). Reshma Aur Shera, a 1971 crime drama, was directed by Sunil Dutt. He also starred Vinod Khanna and Rakhee.
The second season of The Kapil Sharma Show has been well received by its fans. He also married his longtime girlfriend, Ginni Chatrath, in December.

The show was recently embroiled in controversy when the special guest of the show, former cricket player and now Punjab government minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, commented on Pulwama attack. As a result of the terrorist attack, Sidhu had said during a media interaction: "Nations can not be held responsible for the despicable acts of terrorists. The terrorists do not have deen, mazhab (sect and religion). There is good, bad and ugly. Every institution has one. Every nation has one. The ugly must be punished … "His comments sparked a huge outcry. Hashtags such as #BoycottSidhu tend to appear on social media, which led to his ousting the series. Archana Puran Singh has replaced him in the show.
