In a statement posted on Instagram, Daphne Dunne's family said she died peacefully in a Sydney hospital Monday, just days after turning 99 years old.

"Just holding Daphne in the street and holding her hand means more than … anybody could ever imagine," they said.

"Well, I did not get out of the hospital, but the letter certainly made me feel better," she told 7NEWS.
