J Mahendran dies, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan pay last tribute : The famous filmmaker, director and Tamil actor J Mahendran, who had directed Mullum Malarum, died in Chennai on Tuesday morning. He was 79 years old. Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, the actor turned politician, have paid tribute to the film's personality today. According to some sources, the noted filmmaker was reportedly hospitalized at Apollo hospitals in Chennai as a result of complications after a dialysis session. He was treated at Apollo Hospitals for more than a week and was brought home Monday night.
Mahendran, who began his career as a writer in the 1960s, directed 12 films, including Rajinikanth-starrer Mullum Malarum (1978), Uthiripookkal (1979) and Nenjathai Killathey (1980). The renowned filmmaker had made his debut as a director in 1978 with the famous Mullum Malarum.
Apart from that, he played key roles in "Kamaraj" (2004), "Petta" alongside Rajinikanth and "Theri" of Vijay. He was last seen in the Tamil film "Boomerang", released March 8, 2019.
