A few years ago, music director GV Prakash and director Vijay formed a successful combination that culminated in a record. The combo is back but now sings a different melody. After years, the GV actor is badociated with the director Vijay in their thriller Watchman which contains no songs.

This is essentially what the industry calls a "dog-based movie" where the exploits are fired by an "amazed dog", who is also the hero's best friend. Dog movies have been a favorite formula for actors and directors of Bollywood and Kollywood when searching for a hit. There is a lot of curiosity for such films, mainly for a family audience who just wants to be entertained by dogs.
The plot of Watchman is simple and straightforward. No tracks of romance or junk comedy have been inserted into the narrative. All the action takes place in one night when the hero enters a bungalow to steal money in order to repay a loan shark and to face a terrorist gang. The owner of the bungalow is a former police officer whose "wonderful dog" helps him face the terrorists feared in total darkness.
Technically, the film is smooth with a superb work of the camera directed by Nirav Shah, especially the scenes filmed in total darkness. One of the main advantages is that even though there are no songs or romantic scenes in the film, GV Prakash's background score is in sync with the story. In fact, it adds to the suspense and tension when some parts are totally silent.
GV Prakash and Suman, who play the role of the owner of the bungalow, do a neat job. But it is Bruno the dog who steals the show. The introduction of the golden retriever in which he confronts the burglar is the pivot around which the film turns.
On paper, the story written by Vijay seems interesting, but the scenario and the slowness of the movement are a drag. The film only lasts 95 minutes and should have moved like a ball, but some of the night scenes in the film seem repetitive. The story should have been a bit more appealing, as many scenes are unexplained. The terrorists who are said to be armed and dangerous are bypbaded by a dog of the style Home Alone . The saving grace of Watchman is thus the duration of execution, because the film absorbs only certain parts.
