Tonight's episode of The Flash is exciting for fans of The CW's Arrowverse series. This is not only the first new episode of the series after a few weeks and the first feature film by director Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost), but also the introduction of a new long-awaited villain. : Good luck. A first glimpse of the potentially revolutionary speedster was released yesterday by the network. But now that we know what Godspeed looks like, we have to answer a more general question: who is Godspeed?
Godspeed is a relatively new character in comics. Appearing for the first time in The Flash: Rebirth # 1, Godspeed was created by Joshua Williamson and Carmine Di Giandomenico. As its name suggests, it's a speedster, but it has power that most speedsters in the DC universe would probably not look upset. That power? Godspeed has the ability to separate speedsters from their link with speed force – an action that can kill the speedster in the process. This ability makes Godspeed crazy deadly and it's only the tip of the iceberg in terms of skills. It's a speedster with all that goes with it – one that can even be even faster than Barry Allen himself.
And when it comes to Barry Allen, Godspeed also has a personal connection with him. Like many of The Flash's villains, August Heart – the true identity of Godspeed – was originally a colleague and friend of Barry. In the comics, August's brother was murdered and the murderer released when evidence was destroyed when Barry and his lab were struck by lightning. When August is struck by lightning as a result of a storm in Speed Force, he first teams up with Barry (who reveals his identity as Flash) to help bring together speedsters. newly created and turned into criminals. However, August – as Godspeed – ends up killing the main suspect in the murder of his brother and admits to Barry that he has abandoned the justice system. Instead, he uses his new powers to be judge, jury, and executioner, doing justice to his brother according to his terms.
It is not yet clear how The Flash will interpret Godspeed and his motives, a new speedster villain is the last thing Barry and Team Flash need at the moment. Not only are they dealing with the evil Cicada 2 / Grace (Sarah Carter), but they have also just discovered Nora's great secret (Jessica Parker Kennedy). Nora worked with Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) and, although the general motivation of the team is not entirely clear – it's Thawne after all – what is clear is that Barry (Grant Gustin) does not handle it well. In the episode tonight, Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) will disagree on how to deal with Nora – the Flash team exploring Nora's diary to find out more. The flash ? Let us know in the comments below.
The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8 pm AND on the CW. "Godspeed" was created tonight, April 16th.
