The selections for the National Film Awards are made by an independent and impartial jury composed of eminent directors and film personalities and declared each year in April, the ministry announced.

"Since the entry into force of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which facilitates equal treatment between all political parties and candidates and aims in particular to ensure that the power of the media is not not used in such a way as to affect the general conduct and level playing field during the electoral process, it was decided to declare the rewards once the electoral process ended and the MCC concluded, "the statement said.

The MCC comes into force upon the announcement of the electoral calendar and remains in effect until the proclamation of results. Lok Sabha's election results will be announced on May 23rd.
