How important is World Dance Day for you?
As a dancer, this is basically a New Year for all dancers. It is the day we celebrate and it is the day J.
Why did you have the idea to make a movie based on street dancing?
So, here is my third film about dance and myself doing two dance movies that are ABCD and ABCD 2. The one I wanted to do differently than what I was doing before. It was at that time that I went out on the streets and history is very close to my heart. I am very excited about this movie.
Since Varun and Shraddha have already worked together in your film ABCD 2, the audience has many expectations of it. As a director, to what extent have dance talents improved in dance?
They are extraordinary and work very hard. They progressed in dance. I worked with them in ABCD 2 and they worked very hard. But for Street Dancer, they work even harder because they know they have to do better than ABCD 2 in this movie. Working with them is incredible because they are actors who put everything in everything they do.
You have always explained how Michael Jackson inspired you. But your journey is also inspiring and many aspiring dancers are turning to you. How do you feel?
I feel good and I'm glad people take me for inspiration. I just want to tell my story and inspire people so that they do not lose hope. If I can do it, they can do it. I am happy that people take me as a source of inspiration.
Nobody really thought that there could be movies in Bollywood solely based on dance. But you can be credited with making dance a genre in the Hindi film industry. What really made you do it?
When I arrived as a dancer, I saw that there was no film on the dance. People said that they were shooting a movie about dance, but they had never done it before. They were doing something else and saying it was a musical, so it's a dance film. So I wanted to be the first to do a dance film. And that's what happened to ABCD.
