The first look of actor Uri Vicky Kaushal of Sardar Udham Singh, biographical film about the legendary freedom fighter, shows him in the streets of St. Petersburg. The actor wears a suave hairstyle and a wound on the right cheek and can be seen wearing an overcoat. Collector cars and a Russian woman are also visible in the frame.
Sardar Udham Singh is led by Shoojit Sircar and was written by Ritesh Shah and Shubendu Bhattacharya. Earlier, the actor Irrfan Khan had been chosen to play the lead role but had to be replaced by Vicky after being diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumor and could not return for a role in the action.

In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, Shoojit said of Vicky Kaushal's casting: "There is a burning intensity and anger that I saw in his eyes during our first meeting, which I convinced him that he was the right man to play Udham. He added, "The film is based on the life of Udham Singh, especially on an event we had already researched. Vicky being from Punjab, a Sikh family, it's a big responsibility for him too.
The filmmaker is shooting for the film in St. Petersburg and Vicky even shared a short video of the city on his Instagram stories. On filming in Russia, Shoojit said, "This is my first time film and it is difficult to create this environment and characters that are part of our story. Russians love India … They love Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun da (Chakraborty). If you want something, just sing "Jimmy Jimmy" from Disco Dancer.

The filmmaker stated that the film would be shot in the suburbs of London, in parts of Ireland, Germany and India. "We are going to shoot for six or seven months, all year, in different seasons. The film should be released in 2020, "he said.

Who was Udham Singh?
A Ghadar Party member, Sardar Udham Singh killed General Michael O 'Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in India, on March 13, 1940 in London. He ordered the mbadacre of Jallianwala Bagh at Amritsar in 1919. Singh was hanged in July 1940. He used the name of Ram Mohammad Singh Azad, who represents the three major religions of Punjab.
