More than a thousand of people died after British soldiers opened fire at a crowd of unarmed and peaceful protesters in Amritsar, and the incident became a turning point in the history of British rule in India.

The production of Rising Sun Films was written by Ritesh Shah ( of Pink, Raid .) And Shubendu Bhattacharya ( Madras Cafe ). The film marks the first collaboration of Kaushal with Sircar, who directed Vicky Donor (2012) Piku (2015) and October (2018). Sardar Udham Singh is aiming for an exit for 2020.
