Social media was flooded Friday night with rumors that actress Mumtaz, who once stood, was breathing for the last time in Mumbai. Rumors began circulating on Twitter after movie critic and trade badyst Komal Nahta announced Mumtaz's death on the microblogging site. However, director Milap Zaveri sent Twitter to dispel rumors and wrote that Mumtaz was "very alive".
Zaveri wrote: "Mumtaz Aunty is alive and well, she spoke to him and @ Shaadrandhawa, his nephew, as if to stop the rumors (sic)."

This was in response to the tweet now removed from Nahta that read: "Actress of Yesteryear Mumtaz pbaded She is buried early this morning in Bombay due to a heart attack and the funeral will be held tomorrow when her daughter arrives from the United States. "
Nahta deleted the tweet after Milap's confirmation on Twitter.
The critics later wrote: "Extremely sorry for posting news of the death of Mumtaz ji By the grace of God, she is enthusiastic and enthusiastic.The bad news is gaining ground in the world of cinema. make it clear, Mumtaz i am quite good. "
