On Thursday morning, Pooja Bedi, actor-author-columnist, accompanied by Karan Oberoi's sister, Gurbani, and his friends (Sachin Shroff, Danny Fernandes, Anveshi Jain, Chaitanya Bhosle and Varkey Patani, Sherrin Verghese, Sudhanshu Pandey and his lawyer, Dinesh Tiwari) gathered in the Andheri Metropolitan Court in Mumbai to join his defense and help the #MenToo movement gain momentum. Around 13 hours, the actor-musician is placed in custody for 14 days. His lawyer, Dinesh Tiwari, will ask for his release on bail tomorrow. He told Bombay Times: "The demand for police custody was rejected by the court. We presented all the material, including everything that was published in the newspaper, to indicate how this story was created. The court has accepted the application and will be held in custody for 14 days. We will ask for a deposit tomorrow. When the police asked for custody of Karan Oberoi, we objected, pointing out that this false case was created out of nowhere and that two people do not agree, such allegations are created. After lengthy hearing the dispute, the court sent Karan into custody. After the court decision, Karan's friends hugged him as he left and told him to stay strong.
Prior to the hearing, Pooja Bedi, who had expressed her views on the equal rights of men, told the media, "We launched the #MenToo movement based primarily on this case. It is a complete violation of human rights. Agar koi aurat aake rape case ka aarop lagaye, which turns out to be fake, then, a man is slandered. Even the allegations of blackmail and extortion are very serious. When such allegations are made, they can ruin a man's life and career. In one of the previous cases, a judge fined a woman 500 rupees, but the man lost his reputation for life. What about that? We want to give the example with this case. We say that this case is false because we have evidence to prove it and we have presented it to the public. On May 7, Pooja, accompanied by Karan's sister, Gurbani, and his companions and friends of the band Sherrin Verghese, Danny Fernandes, Chaitanya Bhosle, Varkey Patani, Sudhanshu Pandey and Anveshi Jain held a press conference to support him. Text messages sent by the girl to Karan between 2017-18.
