Acting guru Roshan Taneja dies at 87, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher and others pay tribute

Mumbai:

Roshan Taneja, the man behind the talent treasure in Bollywood, including Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Jaya Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Shatrughan Sinha, died at 87.

"My father died Saturday night at 9:30 pm in his sleep at home after a long illness," said the son of the acting guru, Rohit Taneja, at IANS on Saturday morning.

Roshan Taneja was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February of this year. He is survived by his wife Mithika and his sons Rohit and Rahul

. His cremation took place at the Santa Cruz West Electric Crematorium. Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Ratna Pathak Shah, Kanwaljit Singh and Gufi Paintal attended the evening.

Roshan Taneja's pbadion for theater brought him to New York, where he practiced at the premises of the famous Sanford Meisner & Sydney Pollack. , who became an Oscar-winning director.

Known by many as the "pioneer of the game method" in India, Roshan Taneja was held in high esteem in the Hindi film industry. He had been teaching talent since the 1960s, first at the Indian Institute of Film and Television (FTII) in Pune, and then at his private school in Mumbai, the Roshan Taneja School of Acting.

At FTII, he founded the acting department. in 1963.

Anil Kapoor said that he "will be forever grateful and indebted to Roshan Taneja for his teachings and guidance". "I have been extremely lucky to be coached with him," he added.

Actor Anupam Kher, who owns his own theater institute, said that Roshan Taneja was one of India's best theater teachers and had trained some of the best FTIIs and to his academy. "I'll miss him".

The veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah became emotional.
