Season 8 of Game of Thrones Episode 5 was a kind of mbad, as promised. And as expected, many are dead. The first to leave, however, was not a war victim. It's his loyalty (or lack thereof, according to the parties) that convinced him.
If you have not seen the episode yet, get your SPOILER BUCK !
Forced to choose between the kingdom and its queen, Varys changed his loyalty and paid the price by facing Drogon's mad breath. He chose to betray Daenerys Targaryen in favor of sitting Jon Snow on the throne. Daenerys discovered that Jon was not interested in his projects and, as expected, there was no mercy.
She promised to burn him alive if he betrayed her one day and she kept her promise. The fate of Varys was finally resolved, as Melisandre had predicted in season 7, on this island of Dragonstone.
It might have been caused enough damage to the cause of the dragon queen before dying, however. The episode begins with Varys writing several letters bearing the same information – Jon Snow is in truth Aegon Targaryen, legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, and as such the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne. Who knows how many of them have reached their destination?
The Whisperer Master has betrayed many kings and queens in his life, but his loyalty has always been unshakeable to the kingdom. In this sense, Varys died as he lived. But did his betrayal ultimately contribute to Daenerys' red fury and the ruin of King's Landing? I guess we will continue to think about this for a long time!
