The Love Aaj Kal 2 is directed by Imtiaz Ali, who directed Love Aaj Kal in 2009 with the father of Sara's actor, Saif Ali Khan. Deepika Padukone was also featured in the film.

Speaking of his casting in Love Aaj Kal 2 Kartik had previously told the IANS News Agency: "He (Imtiaz Ali) is one of my favorite filmmakers and I have always wanted to work with him.I am happy that this will happen at last. "Besides Love Aaj Kal 2 Kartik Aaryan is listed in the remake of Patni Patni Aur Woh with Ananya Panday and Bhummi Pednekar.
