You probably now know that the final of Game of Thrones takes place this Sunday. So, of course, the entire Internet is booming and trying to figure out how this epic (and sometimes dreadful) saga will end. Here's bad news: fans think Drogon will die. YEP.
Spoilers to come from … the entirety of Game of Thrones . If, for some reason, you have not watched this series but clicked on this post, you should apologize!
Here is the market: Dany started with three dragons. She named them after some of the men in her life. Fans think that each dragon's fate is essentially determined by the name that Dany gave him.
For example, Rhaegal was named after Dany's older brother, Rhaegar Targaryen, who died fighting Robert Baratheon during the trident battle. According to the books Thrones Rhaegar was killed when Robert hit him in the chest with a hammer of war. Rhaegal is killed by Euron Greyjoy and the scorpion spears go through his chest. The death of the dragon reflects that of his namesake.
On the dragon number two. Dany named Viserion in honor of his brother Viserys Targaryen. Viserys died when Dany let Khal Drogo drop a bucket of hot liquid gold on his head.
Bustle found a quote from the books of George RR Martin in which Dany explained why he named a dragon after his brother: "Viserys was cruel, weak and scared, but he was still my brother His dragon will do what he could not. "
