Kevin Feige confirms the return of Mandarin in the MCU

Marvel Studios still have great plans for Mandarin in the Marvel film universe. Despite the fact that Tony Stark died in Avengers: Endgame, one of the greatest Iron Man heroes will make his return to a future MCU project

This confirmation was received directly from Kevin Feige, director of Marvel Studios, during a Reddit AMA session (via Collider). When asked if future MCU projects would feature the Ten Rings organization featured in the first Iron Man movie or the "real" teasing mandarin in the Marvel One Shot short film "All Hail the King", Feige simply answered "Yes". In comics, Mandarin has long been considered one of the greatest enemies of Iron Man. Son of a rich Chinese father and a British aristocratic mother, the Mandarin features 10 powerful rings from the wreckage of an alien spacecraft. These rings give him seemingly magical abilities, making Mandarin the supernatural antithesis of Iron Man's technological power.

Iron Man introduced for the first time the Ten Rings, the terrorist organization responsible for the abduction of Tony Stark and the attempt to use his weapons for his own purposes. . Their leader, Raza, wore a red ring that would be one of ten mandarin rings.

The Mandarin himself appeared for the first time in Iron Man 3 in 2013, performed by Sir Ben Kingsley. However, the movie revealed that this character was nothing more than an actor named Trevor Slattery, who had been hired to play the role of the bloodthirsty leader of the Ten Rings. Tony's rival, Aldrich Killian, is revealed instead as the "real" Mandarin, fueled by the Extremis virus rather than by foreign rings. Some blame Marvel for altering a popular villain.

"All Hail the King" of 2014 (included as a bonus in Thor's DVD release: The Dark World) revealed that none of the characters was the true mandarin. There, a jailed Slattery meets Jackson Norriss, an agent of the real Mandarin. Norriss removes Slattery after informing the actor that his master was offended by Slattery and that Killian stole his name from him

. And with Tony sacrificing himself in the climax of Endgame, he was no longer certain that the MCU would ever pick up the lost Mandarin threads of "All Hail the King". However, Feige's confirmation clearly indicates that this long dormant story will continue.

The exact role that Mandarin will play in an MCU without an iron man remains to be determined. We hypothesized that Marvel could embody one of the characters to take over the torch of Iron Man, in which case Mandarin would be a logical antagonist.

A fan theory suggests Mandarin. could be the main villain in the upcoming Shang-Chi movie. In comics, Shang-Chi's father was originally from Fu Manchu, a villain created by novelist Sax Rohmer, who appeared in many works of fiction. Marvel had to rewrite the origin of Shang-Chi after the company had lost rights to Fu Manchu. Mandarin could be a logical replacement for the character of the MCU, given his status as a villainous naughty genius and his considerable martial arts abilities.
