A Mumbai court on Friday dismissed the bail application of TV actor and singer Karan Oberoi, arrested earlier this month on charges of rape and blackmail a woman.
The lawyer of Mr. Oberoi Dinesh Tiwari said that they would take the case to the High Court after the plea would have been dismissed by the Dindoshi court of law.
"The application for bail of my client was rejected.We will take the case to the High Court because we are not happy with the order," said M Tiwari.
He was arrested on May 6 after the woman, an astrologer, filed a police complaint on Sunday accusing him of raping and blackmail under the pretext of marriage.
"II According to the recent decision of the Supreme Court, if a person makes false promises and has any physical contact with them, that amounts to rape, his case was dismissed, but his application for release under bail was rejected, "the woman's lawyer, Ali Kaashif Khan, said.
An Andheri court ordered Mr. Oberoi to be held in police custody on May 14, May 9.
A FIR was registered at the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai under Articles 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Criminal Court. Code against Oberoi.
"Oberoi not only raped the woman and filmed the act, but also demanded the victim of the money that she threatened to broadcast the video if she did not pay," said the police, citing the FIR.
Karan Oberoi has been a singer and actor for more than 25 years and has appeared in several television series including "Swabhimaan", "Jbadi Jaisi Koi Nahin" and "Saaya". He was one of the singers of "A Band of Boys".
