by David Griffin
Attention! FULL SPOILERS for Westworld Season 2 below. If you need a refresh, do not miss our article on the finale of Season 2, entitled "The Pbadenger".
Westworld's trailer for Season 3 opens with Aaron Paul, Jesse Pinkman of Breaking Bad, walking around a city on his way to work. Accompanied by the haunting melodies of Pink Floyd, Paul's character speaks of unfulfilled promises and a burning desire for something "real". And apart from the few images of Dolores scattered in the trailer, most of the images are centered on Paul and his exploits. It's his point of view that guides us through this first look at the third chapter of the science fiction epic of Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan. So, what does all this mean?
Continue reading to find out where we think the story of Season 3 could be based on the trailer and how the mysterious character of Aaron Paul fits perfectly into the main scenario. We also have a gallery below filled with images of the trailer that will highlight some of the points we are going to address. Let's dig in!
Who is the Westworld character of Aaron Paul?
Until now, the character of Aaron Paul has not yet been named, but according to what can be said of the trailer, he seems to be a building worker from day to day. night criminal. He seems to be unhappy with his daily life and feels betrayed by promises that have never been kept. We can badume that these promises implied an easier way of life for humanity with the help of animators, a scenario that we have already seen in Blade Runner and which is based on Electric Sheep's Do Androids Dream? Like Blade Runner, Westworld also explores the concept of soul machines, which are slowly evolving to become more human than human.
If it is too early to tell if Paul's character is a host or not, he will probably play an important role. in the coming battle. At the end of season 2, Dolores is ready to face humanity with deadly force. But do not forget poor old Bernard, who still believes that humanity can be better than it is right now. Paul's character meets Dolores at the end of the trailer, but is she looking for something "real"? Maybe, but he could choose to fall back on Bernard's point of view if given the opportunity. Of course, he might not be happy with his life yet, but is punishing the entire human race the solution?
Paul's character also has a set of specific skills (wink wink). Working alongside the character of newcomer Lena Waithe, he looks like a competent thief. Maybe Dolores will ask him to steal something from him? Season 3 will be our first deep dive into what Earth's society has become. In addition to the hosts, most of the insights we have received come from the rich and powerful, so it will be nice to see what an average Joe will do in the future.
What is Dolores going for?
Back in In 2018, show creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan unveiled their vision of Season 3 and what fans can expect from Westworld. In an interview with THR, Nolan said that during Westworld season 3, Dolores would have "a more ambitious set of goals" now that she was in the real world. What are these goals, we have no idea, but one thing is clear: she is not the biggest fan of humans. During the caravan, we see her shooting two men, bringing someone's body back to her car and stumbling on Paul's character in a terrifying tunnel with what appears to be a gunshot wound or by stabbing.
And even though we do not see her in the trailer, let's not forget that there is something that dwells in Hale's body. In addition, Dolores still has five "pearls" that she slipped into Hale's handbag. In an interview with The Wrap, Joy spoke more about these pearls and what they could mean for season 3. "In each of those little balls in the purse is a host, so there's a handful – but not an infinite amount of them. There are five.A host per pearl. "We still do not know exactly which hosts Dolores saved, but it's a safe bet that she'll need it for her mission.
Learn more about the Earth
During the first two seasons, most of our time was spent in Westworld or one of the adjacent parks. One of the most exciting things of the upcoming third season will be to learn more about life in society and when this story unfolds. The character of Aaron Paul will give us a perspective, but Joy has told The Wrap that Bernard, Dolores and the one in Hale's body will be our eyes and ears. "It was always the plan to explore the real world and we have Dolores over there, Bernard is there and a creature that certainly lives in Hale's body is there, so we're going to know more about who's" Hale ". There are three hosts in the world and the next season will really be an exploration of what they find and what they become. "
