Raj Kumar Gupta, most wanted Indian director: I tell stories that touch me

Raj Kumar Gupta told the story on Wednesday his latest director, India's Most Wanted, has touched him so much that he has only to say it at public. The film, starring Arjun Kapoor, traces the course of five Intelligence Bureau officers to catch a dreaded, unarmed and unsupported terrorist on whom to lean.

In an exclusive conversation with indianexpress.com in New Delhi, the director revealed what interested him to make a film about a group of unsung heroes from the Intelligence Bureau of India.

"I think it hurt me when I heard that members of the Intelligence Bureau were sharing their own money. , and went out to catch one of India's most wanted terrorists. They captured it in Nepal, without shooting a single bullet, without using any firearms and without the support of the government. It seemed very brave and that's why I decided to choose this subject, to research, write and make a film, "said Raj Kumar Gupta.

Arjun Kapoor , star of India Most Mosted, plays the role of intelligence bureau chief Prabhat Kapoor of the Intelligence Bureau as a total break with the flamboyant characters that he has portrayed in his recent films such as Namaste England and Mubarakan.

We asked Raj Kumar why he thought Arjun would do the deal, and he replied, "Why not Arjun? I think the script called someone, who was a guy next door, someone who could melt into the crowd, somebody who does not stand out, and that was what the character was, if you look at those people who have inspired the film, they are very ordinary people, they could live next door, and you might not know. after finishing writing, it appeared to me very instinctively that I found someone who represented what there was in the character, what it was there was in my mind. This is how we discussed with Arjun. I sent him the script and he really liked it.

The most wanted Indians were also hit hard by the Censor Board. A few days before its publication, the CBFC asked the team to modify some references to the Gita and Qur'an, to which the manufacturers subscribed. But, do these cuts hinder the process of storytelling? Raj Kumar Gupta said, "It keeps the storytelling process going. There was a scene that was written for a certain context in the film and there is an impact derived from that or there is a certain reality described in it. That said, I would also like to say that CBFC told us that it was something that could hurt religious feelings. And we did not want to do that. That's why, when they made the request, we did it voluntarily and submitted the film again.

Raj Kumar has already directed the role of director in films like Aamir, No One Killed Jessica and Raid. Now, with India Most Mosted, can we say that he has found his interest?

"I think I found my interest in my first film, Aamir. I think I try to tell stories that interest me and affect me in one way or another. And try to do it in the best possible way, keep this subject's integrity and be as sincere as possible towards it. So I think that's what I'm pbadionate about. That's what makes me move forward. And that's what touches me. And that's why I remembered these stories that really emerged from reality and had such an impact, "said the filmmaker.
