George R.R. Martin posted a message on his website saying goodbye to "Game of Thrones" on Monday, a day after the broadcast of the long-awaited finale of the series.
"It's hard to believe that it's over, if the truth is told," he writes, adding, "It was a crazy race, it's the least we can say."

"How's that all I hear from people asking," he wrote. "The same end as the series? Different? Well … yes, and no, and yes, and no, and yes, and no, and yes."
"I work in a very different environment from David and Dan, never forget," he continued, referring to animators David Benioff and DB Weiss.
"There are characters who are never shown on the screen, and others who died in the series but still live in books," he said, adding: "And yes, there will be unicorns … a lot …"
Martin's blog does not negate that some elements of the plot might be identical in the # 39, HBO show and his books. Daenerys could take a destructive path. Jon Snow could venture beyond the wall. And Bran could become king of the six kingdoms. But the way we get there – and all the characters who help along the way – will probably be very different.
There are important characters in the Martin series that "Thrones" onlookers probably cut for simplicity, such as Catelyn Stark's undead alter ego, Lady Stoneheart, and another secret Targaryen, Young Griff. They also streamlined aspects of Martin's story to create new characters, like the king of nights.

He also recognized that the books are "very late" but refused to specify when they would be finished.
