It is not everyday to spend the day at the home of the captain of the World Cup. So when the actor Ranveer Singh was so lucky, he could not thank enough his stars. Ranveer plays the role of cricket legend Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan's next film in 1983, based on Team India's historic victory in the World Cup in 1983. And the kind of preparation he undergoes for getting into that character's skin will make his fans praise him and love him more. In an exclusive conversation, Ranveer talks about spending 10 days with Kapil at home, adapting everything he could about him and personally knowing the former cricketer.
If you had to describe this experience of spending 10 days with Kapil Dev, what would you say?
Kapil sir and his family are very warm, kind and generous people. I will always be grateful to them for having so magnanimous to help me during this unique study. Their big hearts touched … something I will never forget. They blessed me.
You had already met him in Dharamsala, so how was this trip to Delhi special?
During this relay, I spent with Kapil a time of great quality, much more immersive and intensive than the time spent with him in Dharamshala. At the beginning of the training camp, he had mainly trained me in cricket, while in Delhi, it was more about knowing him personally.
Every day, as you prepare for this role, do you find it? Easier or harder to get into the character?
Initially, the character seemed intimidating. Describing a living legend is a sense of responsibility. But after working on the construction of the character, I feel more prepared and less anxious.
What is this thing about Kapil Dev that, in your opinion, would be the most difficult to imitate on the screen?
Of course, grabbing Kapil's master bowling action was a difficult task. This is a unique action that has forced me to make radical changes in the mechanics of my body in order to acquire the skill required to play like him.
And one thing about him that came naturally to you …
He is an extremely pbadionate individual. I can understand his devouring pbadion for what he does.
You said recently that you were nervous about playing such an iconic character and that you did not know how you would get out of it. After these 10 days, have things changed?
I found clues throughout this course that will help me build my performance. I am looking forward to the challenge. I am delighted with the way the film has taken shape. All credit goes to Kabir, sir, and to our dedicated team for the spectacular preparation of the film. We hope to make a film that the whole nation can be proud of and we wish everyone's blessing for our company.

Kapil Dev talks about Ranveer Singh:
How has Ranveer been able to adapt to your style in the field and elsewhere?
Ranveer is a man of incredible talent. He can portray any character with conviction, as we have seen in the different roles that he has played. His capacity is deep. With his temperament and boundless energy, his attention to detail, he will easily adapt to all my ways and my technique.
In those 10 days that Ranveer spent with you, what about his personality that impressed you?
His commitment and his pbadion. These are the two traits that strike the viewer the first time. He will be at something several times and will not let go until he feels under control, even if others tell him that it is acceptable. Totally acceptable is not acceptable. It must be excellent.
