After playing a respectful wife and an IPS officer at Diya Aur Baati Hum, Deepika Singh is about to go back. on television with Kawach 2. The drama of horror will also have Namik Paul and Vin Rana in the lead roles. The second part will present the story of a girl trying to protect her love and family from evil spirits. The premiere of Kawach 2 took place today on Colors.
At the launch of the series, Deepika Singh spoke with indianexpress.com for an exclusive conversation about the series, her connection to the name Sandhya and her return after her maternity leave.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Why did you choose Kawach 2 as a return project?
I had been waiting for a long time for a good show. Honestly, I go with my instinct. When I heard the story of Kawach 2, my heart immediately answered yes. I was praying for it to work. It's a new genre for me, so it's going to be a challenge. But Ekta Kapoor wanted me to be his Sandhya and I hope to meet her expectations.
The name of your character in Diya Aur Baati Hum was also Sandhya. Do you think there is a link?
It's a mere coincidence, though it's pretty huge. I am blessed to have a life where I can experience these things. I was a judo player and at Diya Aur Baati Hum, I had to play the game during a circuit. As a dancer Odissi, in Kawach 2, I have a lot of dance sequences. It is rightly said that life goes around in circles
Have you seen the last season of Kawach?
Yes, I followed it. I love Mona Singh and I am really inspired by her work. Mona and Vivek Dahiya did a fabulous job. The series played very well and we talked a lot about it.
Your son is two years old and you are back at work. Was it a difficult choice?
What I noticed on the set and around me are girls who look at me respectfully. Today, the stereotype that married women and mothers can not play a leading role has been shattered. Honestly, there was a time when I too thought that I would stop playing, that dancing gave me a lot of happiness. However, my fans and this show have me pulled back. Moreover, I did not want my child to grow up with the guilt that his mother left her career because of him. I am so happy that there are people like Ekta Kapoor who do not allow actors to be cast. All that she expects of you, it's a good job.
Personally, do you like this kind of music?
I am a darpok (loose) in the field of horror series. I really can not watch it. I think it really works to my advantage because I give the perfect expressions of the series (laughs).
You recently explained how your husband, Rohit Raj Goyal, took a break from being with your son while you work in Kawach.
Well yes, we did not want Sohum to feel neglected with both of his parents. Rohit is also working on his screenplay but is taking more time for our child now. Moreover, now that I'm far from him, I just can not be scolded. He became so mean knowing that his Hitler was gone (smiles).
