Ghaziabad-based climber Sagar Kasana climbed Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. He deployed the Indian flag to the summit on May 22 at 10:15, said his father, Ajab Singh Kasana. He will return home on June 1st.
Sagar Kasana, the last-year senior student of the Noida College of Physical Education, left Ghaziabad on April 4 and arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, the same day. He left Kathmandu on April 6 and reached the first base camp on May 3 via Lukla, Fekdeag, Nemche Bazaar, Tyagbo Monastery, Dingboche and Laboche, his father said.
Sagar, accompanied by Krick Wood of Australia, Alexander of Russia and Evan Tommo of Bulgaria, reached the third base camp on May 4. They had to wait 18 days at the fourth base camp for the weather to be more lenient.
On the way to the summit, Tommo died of mountain sickness. Said Sagar to IANS by phone. After that, the other two mountaineers refused to continue and Sagar had to move away from the rest of the trip.
Sagar had previously climbed mountains at Leh, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh; Europe (Alburse Mountain) and Russia. He also climbed Mount Killimzaro in Africa.
