actively involved in the British war effort and served in the same volunteer
group. The future monarch worked as a driver and mechanic and was

would marry then with Prince Philip in 1947 and have his first two children, Prince Charles and Princess Anne respectively in 1948 and 1950. Nearly two years after Anne's
birth, Elizabeth became queen when George VI died suddenly at 56 years.
