A petition was filed in the High Court of Delhi to obtain a stay of release of the film of Salman Khan, Bharat . The petition by a Vikas Tyagi further seeks to change the name of the film as well as any dialogue in which the main character, Bharat, has been compared to India.

It is therefore argued that the representation of our county by such a casual person would be detrimental to the feeling of the people. The petitioner claims that it is inappropriate to correlate the content of the film with its title.

The petitioner further baderts that according to Article 1 (1) of of the Indian Constitution Bharat is the official name of our country. In addition, in accordance with section 3 of the Law on Emblems and Names (Prevention of Illegal Uses), 1950 the use of the name "Bharat" in any trade, business , profession, etc.

He therefore asks for a suspension of the film's release and a name change.
