Challenging gender norms in the film industry, actors Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut and Kareena Kapoor, among others, took advantage of the rumor that prevailed in the moolah, starring films of Rs 100 cr and changing the Bollywood narrative that only male actors are attractive. The change will be further defined in 2020 when major female-directed films will have a box-office showdown with movies with big male stars. As Deepa's Chhapaak prepares for a clash with Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji, Pang Kangana's and Street Dancer from Varun Dhawan 3D will be released in theaters the same day.
In addition to the clashes mentioned above, we will regularly see other big-name movies at the box office. Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay have major releases next year. Here is an overview of the main box office clashes scheduled for next year:
Jan. 10: Tanhaji Vs Chhapaak
With Deepika in the lead, Chhapaak tells the story of a survivor of the attacks at the acid called Malti. It also features the Vikrant Mbadey. Meghna Gulzar directed this film inspired by the life of Laxmi Aggarwal, a survivor of acid attacks.
Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji, meanwhile, is led by the Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare and is directed by Om Raut. Tanaji Malusare was a military commander of the army of Chatrapati Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha empire in 17th century India.
January 24: Street Vancer 3D vs. Panga
Ashwini Iyer Tiwari's Panga tells the story of a kabbadi player and features Kangana in the lead. Street Dancer 3D by Varun Dhawan is the third film in his ABCD franchise and brings him together with Shraddha Kapoor and Remo D'Souza.
February 14: Love Aaj Kal 2 vs. Malang vs. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan
Although Kartik Aaryan's love-Sara Ali Khan, Aaj Kal 2, has not yet official date, rumors suggest that he will have a Valentine's Day d Daily release. It is directed by Imtiaz Ali and the filming of the film would have been packed. Malang is also complete with Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria. Meanwhile, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan will see Ayushmann Khuranna play the lead role.
Eid 2020: Sooryavanshi vs. Inshallah
Another major clash for next year will see Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan close the wickets at the wickets, fighting for screen sharing. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Sooryavanshi is another detective film by the filmmaker and is also performed by Katrina Kaif. Inshallah brings together Salman and Sanjay Leela Bhansali for a love story starring Alia Bhatt.
Christmas 2020: Ajay Devgn Ranbir Kapoor-starrer – Ajay Devgn Ranbir-Starrer by Lal Ranjan vs. Luv Ranjan
Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha is an official adaptation of Forest Gump. He announced that the film would be finished and ready to be released at Christmas next year. Few things have been finalized on the next edition of Luv Ranjan, but manufacturers have locked Christmas 2020 for the release.
