When I watched the original of Men in Black my vision of cinema completely changed. I had never really seen anything like this before. It was a black comedy with extraterrestrials as a metaphor of immigrants and outsiders, with a giant badroach like villain, we know very little. In addition to the charisma of Will Smith and Vincent D'Onofrio and amazing special effects that contributed to the story instead of adding popcorn blockbuster. I watched the movie three times at the theater and then countless times on TV.
Twenty years later, we now have a third sequel that alleviates everything that has made the original – replacing the black comedy with a joke routine generated by the slot machine, shifting the VFX focus to make things happen bigger, and a villain who is not only threatening but who comes straight from a movie gaming scene. How have things come to this level?
Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in Men In Black: International.
The story follows the rhythms of the original film – Molly (Tessa Thompson) is the new Will Smith, who has just been named in Men in Black and who is pioneering within the company. ;organization. She has teamed up with Agent H (Chris Hemsworth), who is a very different person from her, and their conflicting personalities are undermined for good times. Through the eyes of Molly aka M, we go through the usual carnival tour of rubbery extraterrestrials, weird looking strange weapons, the neutralizer, the flying car, and so on. If you have not already gathered, there is not much novelty here, and by walking familiar ground, the film fails both as a gentle reboot and as a continuation of a series.
Director F Gary Gray does not have the comedic chops of Barry Sonnenfeld, who really excelled in the boundless humor that made the first film awesome. Just look at the scene "Sugar Water" from the original and you will be amazed by the inventiveness of the comedy. Compare that to the visual gags of this movie, where even actors seem to be aware of moments that do not work. The biggest difference here is that this film relies on the star power of the combination of Hemsworth and Thompson to keep things interesting, while the hilarity in the original stems from the fact that the audience is brought to seek normality in strangeness.
Gray also followed Sonenfeld's Get Shorty and failed, the way he was chosen to advance the franchise Men In Black
is even mysterious. Gag of celebrities being extraterrestrials but this time the satirical bite is totally absent, and because it's the longest film of the four, it really feels like a drag to get to the end credits. Perhaps he has been chosen for his bades since he did Fast and the Furious but even the action is dull considering that 's what he did. no real consequences occur. The pbadage from 21 Jump Street to from MIB has been discussed, and given the disappointing nature of this film, this crazy idea seems to be a missed opportunity at this stage.
All that Men In Black: International realizes is becoming the best example of how a dead franking should remain dead instead of trying to resurrect it with the worst scientists in charge.
